End of the war
On January 8th, 1918, President Woodrow Wilson delivered his Fourteen-point speech to Congress, which expressed his perspective on the war and how he felt that it was fought for a moral cause, and how he wished for peace after the war.
Eventually, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month (11:00 on November 11th) in 1918, the war is officially over. An armistice is made to ensure peace. Armistice Day was established to celebrate the end of the war. The Treaty of Versailles was then established. It stated that Germany was completely responsible for the war. As punishment, they were to disarm, give up many of their territories, and pay money for restoration and other needs to the countries of the Triple Entente. The treaty was signed exactly five years after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
The League of Nations was soon created, an organization made up of different countries with the goal of maintaining peace. Although The League of Nations was President Wilson's idea originally, the United States chose not to join because they did not feel that Germany should take total blame for the war.
While many believed World War I to be the war to end all wars, World War II followed not long after. The League of Nations was shut down because it was a complete failure, and the United Nations was established after World War II, which the United States is currently a part of. Hopefully we will be able to maintain world peace and prevent wars from happening in the future.
